Here we go again, more YouTube hijinks

Remember when I posted those un-funny videos of Steven Colbert roasting President Bush? Then I did a make-up by posting Bush bashing Bush? Now all you’ll get is a “Loading…” and no video.
That’s because, once again, YouTube is the victim of popularity. Far be it from me to ever keep somebody from making a dime off of their own products, but it’s becoming rather annoying to have these viral videos go dead, simply because they were popular. I searched YouTube and found dozens of Colbert Report and Daily Show clips, and they didn’t have copyright violations on them. My cohort over at Pop! got the story from FMNN:
C-SPAN has asked both YouTube and IFILM to cease and desist providing the notorious clip of Stephen Colbert’s April 29 performance at the White House Correspondents Association dinner from their Web sites. Both sites have complied. The video clip had already been viewed nearly three million times in less than 48 hours, the story notes, and when it was pulled down it generated a large batch of e-mail queries, especially at YouTube.
Under the misconception that C-SPAN is government-funded, many people complained that the video should have been in the public domain. However, C-SPAN is a private, nonprofit company supported mostly by fees paid by cable companies and television stations, and does hold the copyright on its programming.
Meanwhile, C-SPAN has contracted with Google Video to show the coverage in its entirety, in large part because it agreed to post video of the entire dinner, and to include a link to C-SPAN’s Web site.
Questions answered, the video for Colbert is here and the Bush impersonator is here.
As I was thinking about this, I wondered to myself, “how many times, this week, have I watched that ‘Chronic of Narnia’ video?” The answer is 0. That’s the answer for April, too. And February. You see, once they videos get cold, people move on to something else.
See that dancing guy right below this post? That’s what people are watching today. It’s blowing up all over the internets, because one guy posted it, and now everybody is. I posted it yesterday without even knowing somebody else posted it that I read daily. Then I wake up to it here.
Like I said, I never wanna keep a company from making a buck from what they made…but there’s no faster way to cool a fire than dousing is with water.

The Chronic of Narnia?
Do you mean, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Crack Ho?”

I paid the $1.99 for the iTunes version of the Chronic of Narnia. That’s the great thing about the iTMS… it lets you vote with your dollars for small videos and songs like that.
