Porter Goss, Patrick Kennedy
Lots of big news today, but I’m tired and my computer is being an asshole. So here’s the obligatory post.
Porter Goss - I’m not even going to bother saying anything until more information comes out. Allah has full coverage of the buzz with continuing updates.
Patrick Kennedy - I haven’t looked, but I have to wonder if the left is condemning him as strongly as they have been doing to Rush Limbaugh. OK, no, I don’t wonder. Heh. For the record, I don’t get the whole “addiction to prescription drugs” thing. I’ve been on Oxycontin myself, for something like two years, and I was on a pretty high dose because of my back. I never messed with it for recreational purposes, and never got a buzz or anything from it–it was like taking a Tylenol for me. And when I finally was able to get off it after more back surgery, it wasn’t a big deal. I’ve got relatives who have had their addiction problems, too, so I don’t want to hear excuses that Kennedy was predisposed to it. If he was, then maybe it’s because of that piss-poor father of his setting such a fine example to him. I’m no pharmacologist, but I don’t buy the story that he (or Limbaugh) couldn’t help it. And honestly, to me, people who abuse prescription meds and get addicted are farking idiots. Sure, he says he “accepts full responsibility,” but the verbal gyrations he went through indicates precisely the opposite. It’s a “disease,” and shi’ite like that says “it’s not my fault.” Period. For God’s sake, he’s supposedly under a doctor’s care? He has a “disease” and doesn’t do something about it until this happens? And he says he doesn’t remember that night, but he seemed to earlier. Whatever. Y’all know how much of a bleeding heart I am. Yeah, he does “need help.”
I tried to get another take on this story too, but Mary Jo Kopechne wasn’t available for comment. Sorry!
