Why must they?
Comedy Central’s “South Park” won its first Peabody Award yesterday, winning praise from judges as TV’s boldest, most politically incorrect satirical series.
That’s nice, I hear you saying.
“South Park” was praised as a show that “pushes all the buttons, turns up the heat and shatters every taboo,” Peabody Awards director Horace Newcomb said.
A little dramatic, but OK, fair enough.
“Through that process of offending it reminds us of the need for being tolerant.”
Please, please, please stop. Why can’t you just say it’s funny, so we gave it an award? Does everything have to be emblematic of the need to ‘tolerate’ every farking thing?

Am I to understand that South Park received this award if only to allow the judges a smug, self-satisfying pat on the back for their ‘tolerance’ of show they hold to be ‘intolerant?
If that is the case, then the asshattery of the LLL never ceases to disappoint, do it?

South Park had legal problems once over a racist comment. Their defence was quite interesting. The lawyer pointed out that South Park is, actually, completly non-discriminatory. It offends everyone equally. For religion, they have offended Christians and Jews constantly, with occasional insults towards Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, Budists, and everyone else. They offend every political orientation, every racial group, every nationality, every sexual orientation - including straight… noone is free from their attacks.
The defence worked perfectly.
