It’s the Joooooos, say Harvard hacks
Lest Harvard become smug about the disgrace at Yale, they’ve got their own issues. Eli Cohen at Washington Post:
Academic papers posted on a Harvard Web site don’t normally attract enthusiastic praise from prominent white supremacists. But John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt’s “The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy” has won David Duke’s endorsement as “a modern Declaration of American Independence” and a vindication of the ex-Klansman’s earlier work, presumably including his pathbreaking book, “Jewish Supremacism.”
[...]
Mearsheimer and Walt conceive of The Lobby as a conspiracy between the Washington Times and the New York Times, the Democratic-leaning Brookings Institution and Republican-leaning American Enterprise Institute, architects of the Oslo accords and their most vigorous opponents. In this world Douglas Feith manipulates Don Rumsfeld, and Dick Cheney takes orders from Richard Perle. They dwell on public figures with Jewish names and take repeated shots at conservative Christians (acceptable subjects for prejudice in intellectual circles), but they never ask why a Sen. John McCain today or, in earlier years, a rough-hewn labor leader such as George Meany declared themselves friends of Israel.
Of course. American foreign policy is all about the Joooos (and the Evil Neocons and Fundies). We don’t care about America, only Israel. Right. But they’re the good guys, patriots–just like David Duke. Y’know, they may claim they don’t like David Duke (who knows?), but when an avowed anti-Semitic racist scumbag endorses your work, calling it a “Declaration of American Independence,” I think maybe some reflection and re-evaluation of one’s beliefs might be in order.
Jonathan Tobin at the Jerusalem Post:
Their goal isn’t just to attack Israel, but to delegitimize Israel’s supporters. The main point of “The Lobby” is to portray the pro-Israel community as a vast conspiracy that controls the media, Capitol Hill and the White House, and which ruthlessly squelches any resistance to Israeli policies.
The truth is less exciting. A consensus of Americans across party-lines and religious affiliation identify with Israel not because they do the bidding of the Elders of Zion, but because they see it for what it is: a democratic state in a sea of Arab tyranny with its roots in a common Judeo-Christian civilization.
All this conspiracy! Damn, we’re good. So organized, so on-message. Thank G-d for that daily fax from the Mossad! But now the anti-Jew, pro-Palestinian Left and their Islamist allies have their manifesto to wrap things up neatly for them, from the “brilliant minds” at Harvard. They conveniently ignore the reams of evidence that counteract their arguments, and virtually ignore terrorism as a factor altogether. It’s the The Lobby that’s to blame for Arab hatred of America, and if we weren’t enslaved by The Lobby, Arabs would love us.
Just one question: if “The Lobby” is so far-reaching and powerful, how is it that the political geography of Israel has been shrinking?
Stay tuned for the forthcoming papers from Harvard, “How the Evil Jooooz and Neocons Were Behind the 9/11 Attacks: Islam is the Religion of Peace⢔ and “Bushi’iteler and Those Damn Kikes.”

When it first mentioned the controversy over the paper by Walt and Mearsheimer, the Washington Post titled it Of Israel, Harvard and David Duke. I thought it was an excellent title for it showed the appeal the paper had to…
