PETA’s racism outed (finally)
Via Michelle Malkin at the California Patriot,
One image presented by PETA featured a chained elephant foot juxtaposed with the chained foot of a slave. Another showed black individuals hanging from a tree by their necks contrasted with the image of a cow being hung by its hind legs. Several black students shouted down the PETA students and called for the display to be taken down. One student who was upset by PETA’s comparison of slavery to animal mistreatment shouted amid tears, “I’m not trying to say that people should eat meat. I understand you, but the way you’re depicting our history, the way you are depicting the things that happened to us, the thing that happened to our ancestors, it’s not ok, it’s not ok!”
IT’S NOT OK.
I’m glad they’ve been called out on their clueless, sheltered, white “liberal” racist bullshi’ite. It’s about damn time.

They probably didn’t know about it. I didn’t even know about it at the time! (I think it got buried in the war news, at least for me.) It did get some media coverage, though.

I with PETA, I love animals, too. Take cows for instance. I love cows marinated in bourbon or Jack and cooked rare, very rare.

Wrong. No one on the right has embraced Mr. Phelps, but he has been criticized quite regular. Contrast that to PETA and the left. Those who inhabit PETA are regular members of the serious left. The high profile members are regular fund raisers for the left as well. And it’s a rare thing to hear criticism of PETA from the inhabitants of the left, serious or otherwise.

PETA is well-intentioned, but they have falled into the trap of sensationalism. To maintain the same level of publicity now they must use ever-more unacceptable campaigns, anything for attention as they try to grab headlines. The holocaust campaign was a hard one to outdo though.
Their support from the left is a hangover from their (marginally) more respectable days. If they continue in the way they are right now, that support is going to fade away over the years.
They arn’t very active in this country though, ive only heard about their actions in the US. They had some involvement here a few months ago protesting the opening of a drug-research lab which was to do some animal testing. The whole thing got a bit messy… peaking when some animal-rights protestors snuck into a graveyard and disinteered the remains of the relative of one of the scientists who was set to work there. PETA wasn’t responsible for that little trick - but such things are increasingly common. Like the feminists I commented on elsewhere earlier, this is another movement slowly aquiring followers who only want an excuse for a bit of vandalism.

As the initiator of the debates, our anger did not just come from the displays, or the two hour long debate, but it was the complete lack of any knowledge of the PETA members on the historical events that they were displaying. We were furious because they were exploiting the pains of our past without knowing the basic information on the events, while continuing to compare blacks to animals, which has gone on far too long across the globe. Overall we believed their attempt at saving animals only served to continue to oppress people, and as marginalized black students at UC Berkeley, we had had enough.

Thank you, Autumn, for standing up to those brainless cretins. Their marginalization of slavery and comparisons of blacks to animals (WTF!) just unfuriates me to the core. And they claim to be “compassionate” and “liberal!”
