It’s Fat Tuesday!

We went to the Infant Mystics parade Monday night, and it was the best parade I’ve been to yet! Those guys were throwing tons of everything–beads, doubloons, footballs, stuffed animals, boxes of cookies, you name it–and sometimes by the boxful or bagful! And better yet, they got hung up in one spot for a bit for some reason (it happens in just about every big parade), and they kept on throwing to the crowd even though they were in the same spot for five minutes or so. GREAT floats, bands, everything. We left early to get downtown, so we got good parking and didn’t have to push into a crowd, either. It was cold, but once the parade starts rolling, you forget all about it. It’s kinda funny if you think about it–you get all crazy for the parade and for the shi’ite they’re throwing, and when it comes down to it, what are you going to do with all that stuff, anyway? It doesn’t matter, though–it’s still one of my favorite things to do. I LOVE Mardi Gras!
Anyway, I didn’t bother with the camera; it’s just a pain in the ass dragging it around and trying to take pictures while beads and shi’ite are flying around in the air. I’ll find some on the internets later.
Like I said yesterday, we’re not doing the parades today or tonight; there’s just way too many people there. Two parades in the cold is enough for me this year, anyway. (My little Mardi Gras princess would go to every single parade if she had her way, though!)
So, since she’s got the week off from school (yes, they get Mardi Gras week off) I don’t have to do the school shuffle, and I don’t have to get up to go to the parades, I’m writing this late at night and sleeping in. While you’re reading this, I’ll probably be sound asleep–at least until some time in the afternoon. Keep the noise down so I get some sleep and can come back and post some nonsense later, OK?
The Travel Channel is supposed to be broadcasting live from New Orleans tonight, if you want to watch the madness there. Check out the video gallery, too.
