Why the RINOs killed ANWR
For the backstory and details, see Michelle Malkin. Short version: “Moderate” Republicans (the usual suspects) in the House killed ANWR drilling.
Why? Not because drilling in ANWR is a bad thing. According to the Republican Main Street Partnership, in an emailed response to my message to them:
Thank you for taking the time to write. The ANWR vote for some Members of Congress would cost them their seat in Congress, jeopardizing the Republican majority. The Members are responding to their constituents needs and we hope you can understand.
RMSP
No name given, as you can see, so I’ll let “RMSP” speak for all of them.
Obviously, they don’t understand GOOD POLICY brings votes. These “Republican” elitists (elitards!) make me SICK, sitting on their thrones. Republican majority? With “Republicans” like them around, WE DON’T HAVE A MAJORITY. My original email to them is below the fold.
In your mission statement, you say that you’re for “fiscal responsibility and limited government.”
OK, great.
Then WHY stop ANWR? Is the absence of words saying “not beholden to special interests” (environmentalist wackos and Arab oil sheiks) by design? Is not the American economy and independence important to “fiscal responsibility and limited government?”
I’m a lifelong Republican, and will always remain so. In the last couple of years, though, I’ve wondered why I even bother, with the Republican House and Senate acting more like Democrats (where’s the fiscal responsibility and limited government, anyway?) than Democrats themselves (who are more like garden-variety mental patients). Are you TRYING to destroy all reasons for voting Republican? Are you that confident that the base can be taken for granted forever? If I am thinking this, imagine how those less inclined to hold their noses and vote are? I assure you, I know more who are long gone past the nose-holding stage than not.
I’m all for drawing in the (clueless, wishy-washy) “independent” voters, but not at the expense of good policy. Stopping ANWR drilling is HORRIBLE policy. Inexcusable!

Hopefully someone there will read Malkin’s Letters to the GOP (and check the trackbacks), and see that I’m not the only one disgusted by them.

Oblogatory Anecdotes says:
Hastert and RINOs Kill ANWAR Drilling
What is especially astonishing is House Speaker Dennis Hastert is responsible for killing ANWAR drilling. He should no longer be House Speaker. If Republicans maintain the majority in the House next year we must put intense pressure on our congressmen …

There’s days when I wish I could strap on a tin-foil hat, convince myself that Karl Rove controlled the world, and lose myself in the wonderful fantasy of moonbattiness.
‘Cause sometimes the reality of being a Republican STINKS!

Good to see you pissed off about this one.
If this is the GOP majority, there is no need for a GOP majority.
Spineless pussies.
Seamus de Kirkpatric says:
I currently live in Arkansas, so unfortunately my Sens and Reps are Democrats. I don’t expect anything positive from them; if I had any of those Main Street idiots representing me though, I would probably become a hard core Libertarian. I just might anyway, I’m so tired of the morons we have running the show. We desperately need a Party of Jefferson-style Republicans to replace the McCain Centrists and Clinton Democrats, with Reagan-style Republicans replacing G.W. Bushs Neo-Cons.
Could we have Dr.’s Rice and Keyes in 2008? Please?
And for our childrens sake, won’t somebody nominate Ann Coulter to the Supreme Court?!

It will be interesting to follow campaign contributions to see how many of these people pick up funds from Saudi interests.

This is why I vote for Republicans ; but do not claim to be a Republican.
There are very few statesmen left in the public sector. Most of them are mere politicians.
The next plea for money will be returned with some canine fecal matter smeared on the pledge sheet with a note stating “not another dime until you clean out the dog $hit in the party.”

Republicans make fools of themselves by cancelling
Something is very wrong with the Republicans lately, as Beth at My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy discovered: they backed down on a bill for drilling oil in Alaska that could save the US tons of money.
