Bye-bye Over There

al-Reuters reports that Over There isn’t getting renewed. And the gnashing of teeth and ripping of clothes where heard everywhere, and people donned sack-cloth and ashes.
That, and a collective “meh” went out among the masses. Frankly, if they set the story in space, with some Klingons fighting some noble Romulans, it would’ve still sucked. And not just because it had ghey Star Trek characters, it was because they didn’t seem to bother asking any, you know, military people what they heck it should look like. It was doomed from the start.
Oh, what the crap, here’s the whole story:
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - FX has opted not to renew veteran producer Steven Bochco’s Iraq War drama series “Over There,” citing lackluster ratings, the cable network said Tuesday.
“I’m deeply proud of ‘Over There,’ which was beautifully produced, acted, written and directed,” FX president and general manager John Landgraf Landgraf said. “The series was arguably the most critically acclaimed new television show of the year, a fact which made the decision not to renew it all the more difficult.”
Despite a strong debut that drew 4.1 million viewers, “Over There” tailed off through the rest of its 13-episode run, averaging just 2.1 million overall.
Hey, here’s an idea: maybe make something, I dunno, fact-based and supportive of the military, and maybe we’ll watch the dumb thing. But that would never do, as you need to “get Bush” for some reason.
I watched the first three episodes, which was three more than I could stand. Not even from the thinly-veiled “it’s Vietnam all over again feel” could overcome the glaring lack of reality. Goodbye and good riddance.

Its over for Over There
Now I have never served but I did grow up in a military town (San Diego) most of my friends fathers were in the Navy or Marines. I have known/know quite a few folks in the military. Over There was not representative of the people I know.

Just shows that at least 2 million people would watch a test pattern. “Over There” was nothing more than retread Vietnam stereotypes. . .tyypical leftist garbage.
