Thank You, Iraqi Voters

An Iraqi woman shows her ink-stained finger after voting at polling station in Baghdad's Sadr city neighborhood.
To those who voted in the Iraqi referendum: THANK YOU.

Whether you voted yes or no, you have honored the thousands of Iraqis, US and coalition troops, and victims of terrorism who have sacrificed their lives for your freedom to have a voice in your government, and you have honored your countrymen who love freedom.

Thank you for voting NO to terrorism, whether you voted for or against the constitution.

This ‘toon is from the historic January vote, but it still says everything:

Sgt. Hook is back blogging (hooah!) and says this:

…regardless of whether the draft constitution is confirmed by the votes of the millions of Iraqis who went to the polls yesterday, the “experiment” was a resounding success. My God, in spite of the dangers to their lives, the people participated in the shaping of their country’s future. Sounds like democracy to me, but I’m no way near as educated as our esteemed press corps.

…As a soldier in today’s army, I’m damned proud of the successes in Iraq and Afghanistan on the political side. It means that our sacrifices are not for naught.
