More about Harriet Miers - Beth’s Profane Edition
This pretty much sums up the sentiment I’ve been finding on the left:
She has shown a commitment to advancing the rule of law through her participation in activities of the Federalist Society, the American Tort Reform Association, and other legal organizations. Translation? She’s a wingnut just like you! Soon you’ll all be reading my mail and listening in on my phone and ensuring one nation under God and Republicans with liberty and Haliburton for all the white oil guys.
Amen.
But wingnuts scream so loud they can’t hear the whispers.
So now the fun begins. I could care less how the Democrats treat her. I want to see how the Bush toadies in the Senate act with their constituents shrieking in their ears about dead fetuses and re-elections and Souter in drag. These guys have spread-eagled themselves for Bush for so long they’re almost like automatons.
They may now turn on each other like…..like……Democrats!
Darwin bashing may have to wait.
Make popcorn.
I can’t say I’m surprised, because “constituents shrieking in their ears about dead fetuses and re-elections and Souter in drag” actually seems pretty accurate, even though those doing the shrieking would be wrong about dead fetuses, etc. I was going to be nicey-nice at first, but fark it. I’m sick of watching the collective meltdown. F–k the blogosphere and all the ridiculous armchair cough expertise cough.
Go ahead and burn your farking RNC cards. I’ll haunt your asses when Hillary Clinton is making judicial appointments and send my thanks–NOT. I’m so sick of these bullshi’ite “pundits” and their political cannibalism on EVERY damn issue, it makes me want to quit blogging and swear off the blogosphere forever. I just can’t tolerate reading so much anal vocalization when it comes from people I read every day and usually have their shi’ite together. It’s like reading the DU(h) in a parallel universe. Even more mystifying, I am finding myself agreeing with people I usually ignore–James Dobson? WTF!?
So who’s going to be the first of y’all to start up www.wingnutsforhillary2008.com ? (Apologies to Orin Kerr for lifting the meme.) You might as well, for all the negative campaigning you’re doing online against the GOP. Go ahead and vote for a severely cognitively-impaired third party (Constitution, Libertarian, whatever); see how that works out for you, mm-kay?
I won’t be farking things up and handing power back to the No Agenda Party of Jackasses, and I’m sick of being polite to those amateurs who do.
[Note to The Commissar: mark it three. I'm still not a RINO--but I think your examples of Powerline and CQ might be. ;-) ]

HOT DAMN! FINALLY I hear a whisper of sanity in the midst of the RNC Meltdown Party of 2005.
Thank you Sister Beth.
I *think* all the nashing of teeth are due to the fact that Miers isn’t who Person X would have picked. Well, the way I see it, Person X didn’t win the election to the White House, so they need to have a bit of faith along with a heaping cup of Shut The Fuck Up.
Look, Bush completely botched the federal spending - I think everyone will admit that. But otherwise I think we can see that he’s a bunch smarter than most give him credit.
Maybe Bush isn’t as conservative as some would like, but DAMN IT he’s light years ahead of either of the two most recent Democrat candidates. Geez, people, think about what life would be like if Kerry had won, and now had two SCOTUS appointments.
Yes, we’ve has appointments that ended up disappointing us. But, for crying out loud, we’re giving the Democrats more ammunition than they need to take us down.
I’m not saying that we should blindly follow Bush in everything he does - no automaton here. But at the same time so many pundits and “experts” are already putting one foot in the grave and Miers hasn’t even written her first opinion. People, you’re beginning to appear as unhinged as the Loony Left.
Take a Percocet and calm down. The world is NOT about to end. Just keep thinking about what we’d be going through if Kerry had won.
My 2¢
By the way - what’s so bad about one nation under God and Republicans with liberty and Haliburton for all the white oil guys?
Dave says:
Because maybe in spite of ideology some of us are disturbed at the appointment of an obvious crony. Think of how we’d land on the Dummycrats if they did the same thing. This, too, is the kind of capitulation that characterized Clinton. He was all set to appointed Bruce Babbitt as a justice until he got the ix-nay from Hatch, who recommended both Bader Ginsburg and Breyer.
Miers is Harry Reid’s appointment. I mean, this stinks of cronyism, and the Dummos are going to have a field day. They are scoring points through guerrilla warfare. Maybe the Reps aren’t going to lose much from a single alleged “scandal”, but if we lose a few moderates, wingnuts, or mavericks with each DeLay/Rove/FEMA incident that could end up hemorrhaging us for 2006.
We saw how the Roberts appointment probably helped us, as all but a few left wing whackoes saw his fine credentials. Are you telling me that an Edith Jones would not have been a HELLUVA lot better?
This appointment was stupid. Gives the Dummies way too much ammo. Hopefully they’ll be their typical stupid selves and not know how to use it.
Hardcore Conservative says:
Will you still haunt me if I keep my RNC card? PLEASE?!?!
Reaganite says:
I think the collective conservative sighing today has been building up for sometime and came to a head today with revelation of Democratic donations and a lack of information on Miers.
Stop and think… judicial appointments were the single thread holding most conservatives to this President:
1. Bush just passed LBJ in adjusted percentage expansion of government 35% to LBJ’s 33%… BEFORE Katrina
2. Bush’s polls go down so he opens up the treasury to hurricane victims.
3. Condi over at state is telling the Israelies they have to give up more land.
4. Bush is telling the American people amnesty for illegals is a good thing when called a work program.
5. The highway bill
6. The lack of any Veto in the past FIVE years… a first since John Quincy Adams.
7. The Farm Bill
8. Allowing the GWOT to stall in Iraq/ not pursuing Syria/Iran in a meaningful way (there are hundreds of Al-Qaida operatives-including Bin Laden’s son Sa’ad living in Northern Iran off the Caspian Sea)
9. The Department of Homeland In-Security
10. The TSA… frisking 80 year old grandma’s heading to Terre Haute sure makes me feel safer.
So, when the news came down today that the President nominated someone who was a Democrat in the 80’s (long after the Democrats left Reagan and he switched parties), that she gave to Dukakis’ running mate and to AlGore, and that she never served one day as a judge (which I’ll grant you might not be bad if she weren’t already a lawyer), add in a little Harry Reid happy dance over the nomination of her and I think it’s easy to understand the disappointment among conservatives has boiled to the surface and can not be contained anymore.
Lastly, threats of Democratic Presidents only go so far. Does anyone honestly think a Democratic Pres. would get a blank check from a Republican congress? No. Over in the Senate, there are plenty of conservative Senators to keep future threats of a liberal nomination in check as well.
Hardcore Conservative says:
Holy crap Micheal Savage is going off on Meier and Bush!
but Savage has alway been a bit of a right-moonbat
Beth says:
HC - Heh. That’s why I can’t stand Savage; he’s a dumbass maverick-wannabe, all about himself, never about the big picture.
JUST LIKE THE REPUBLICANS WHO ARE NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING FOR THE DEMOCRATS.
“Reaganite” (scare quotes intentional) - I can’t believe someone who calls himself a Reaganite would SO FLAGRANTLY VIOLATE Reagan’s 11th Commandment. You need to change your name to McCainite.
I don’t HAVE TO “threaten” about Democratic Presidents. Ever hear of a guy named Ross Perot? How about Ralph Nader, for that matter? And besides, keep it up and THERE WON’T BE “plenty of conservative Senators.” Remember also, a REPUBLICAN SENATE confirmed Clinton’s appointments!
Jesus Christ, the cluelessness is breathtaking.

Amy Proctor says:
While I understand the concern that Republicans are making too big a deal of Pres. Bush’s nominee Harriet Miers, keep in mind that this is the SUPREME COURT of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA!!! This isn’t a job for principal of a high school in New York, this is a life time appointment. The court has been legislating liberal morality for decades, and NOT interpreting the Constitution, but making laws from the bench. This is an affront to America.
So…. when Pres. Bush has a wealth of candidates to choose from and picks someone who’s resume is very lacking, this is indeed cause for concern. This is too important a time in history, too important a position and too much ground has been gained to hand this over to a novice.

Both are very informative and will give you a good idea as to why there is an upheaval.
Either Bush knows something the rest of us don’t, which is entirely possible, or he just struck out with the bases loaded. Surely you can see why this would concern many conservatives. While I admire Bush for his attempts at bipartisanism, he has been a soft hitter, not fighting fire with fire for the last 5+ years, letting the minority Democrats get away with bullying the White House, the Senate (especially), Congress, as well as the USA.
We conservatives who are the base of the Party have been fighting the good fight for decades: signing petitions, protesting the war protesters, standing up to Cindy Sheehan, writing letters to the editor of papers across America, phoning our Senators and Congressmen, Walking for Life in the freezing DC winter, and holding the party together from becoming what it shouldn’t be: ambiguous. We have every right to expect our President to give the best to the Supreme Court. This is the country we love and if this appointment is another Souter, giving Democrats more power to legislate from the bench, than all our votes and efforts have been in vain.
It is also healthy to question this nomination for this purpose: we do NOT want to be like the Democrats who blindly follow their leaders for the sake of a temporary fix. We do not want to be mind-numbed robots who cannot think for ourselves and accept second best. We’re Americans, we’re Republicans, and we have fought too long and hard for progress to see it handed to the left on a silver platter.
Time will tell if this is a good nomination or not, but America’s future rides on the Supreme Court. This ought not to be the case, but thanks be to Liberalism, it is. When Harry Reid praises Harriet Mier, be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
Beth says:
Amy, I’m addressing your comment and other things in a post I’m working on now.
And by the way, if you think I haven’t seen the pundits who are against Miers already, you must be out of your mind. I’m not a farking leftard–I DO listen to opposing views.
Vulcan says:
I’m still noncommitted one way or the other on Harriet Miers, but I am more than a little concerned. There are two issues in particular on which she’d damn well better demonstrate her *unwavering* commitment (we don’t need any more David Souter traitors): Roe v. Wade (obviously), and affirmative action. The need for a justice to be a strict constructionist and turn back the judicially legislated madness of Roe v. Wade is obvious.
But the need for a justice who vociferously and consistently opposes affirmative action– to the tune of overturning Bakke and the lame O’Connor AA decision at U. Michigan last year– may IMHO be even more important in the long run. The US will fragment Yugoslavia-style if affirmative action continues to reward ethnic groups and subgroups who cry that they deserve a bigger share of the pie based on numbers rather than accomplishment. In NY where I’m from, the state is already so balkanized at the level of govt. and private business as to be practically paralyzed by the need for some damn stupid quota or another.
If Miers is to be confirmed, she must express unequivocally that she opposes affirmative action and intends to overturn Bakke. If she is unable to do this– or if she goes wishy-washy like Sandra Day O’Connor, lacking the strength of her convictions or unable to formulate her thoughts clearly in a legal brief– then she must categorically be rejected. I’m willing to give her a chance, but she has to pass muster on this. For the sake of the Republic, we can’t afford any more Souters.
Amy Proctor says:
Beth, I wasn’t accusing you of not listening to the other side. I was trying to explain why I think there IS cause for concern over this nomination. Like I said, the biggest indicator is that Harry Reid embraces her! Ye, gads!
Time will tell.
MacStansbury says:
Amy, unless I’m mistaken, didn’t Dingy Harry also endorse the Dread Pirate John Roberts, at first? Just wait till he has something to be outraged against.
