Harriet Miers
Guess what, I don’t know shi’ite, and I’m not going to pretend to, either (nor should some of the other bloggers I’ve been reading this morning). Miers wouldn’t have been my first choice either–but WTF do I know right now?
So basically, I’m going to let Confirm Them say “confirm them, but not her,” and let all the others also get upset. I know one thing: I’m not going to change the nomination by freeeaaaking out!!! about it, like some people are.
Mary Katharine Ham has the best roundup of opinion–go read it. Michelle Malkin has more. The Volokh Conspiracy and SCOTUSblog both have level-headed analysis.
All I really want to say is say Shut Up to some of the people who 1) really don’t have any more expertise than I do, and 2) are shrieking “disaster!” Pbbbbt.
Mark Noonan seems to agree, as does Carol at Confirm Them appears to agree (although the commenters apparently didn’t get the memo):
Many of us are reeling this morning . . . but we need to try to avoid succumbing to the eat-your-own hysteria that can be plenty destructive, especially when there are those who — like Public Advocate — are willing to fan those flames for their own purposes.
The president is a poker player in a long game. He’s decided to take a sure win with a good sized pot. I trust him. So should his supporters.
Marvin Olasky says “we report, you decide,” and does indeed report.
Oh yeah–here’s my “roundup.” I’m phoning it in and going back to bed. It’s Monday, y’know. ;-)

Beth: Your post on Meirs just popped up after I left some comments at the chickenhawk post…
I’ll only add this:
I couldn’t believe the avalanche at Confirm Them. All was quiet and peaceful when I posted at 7:05 AM shortly after Meirs’ name leaked.
Half an hour after that I logged in again and I thought I had gone to Democrats Underground by mistake.
I haven’t weighed in with a post such as your “It’s the Strategy Stupid” but may do so later. Might be time to give our conservative whiners a good spanking.
P.S. Our mutual blog buddy Flopping Aces had quite a coup, being Malkanized yesterday.
Hardcore Conservative says:
Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham are NOT happy about the nomination
Meirs apparently has given over three grand to the Dems

Beth: Read your comment at Mike’s America. I agree, agree, agree. The Pouting Toms need to get smacked upside their heads. CONFIRM THEM reads like the John Birch Society
I’l have more later
don surber says:
Oh and as for Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham, Pbbbbtttt!
They are as wrong about Miers as Ann Coulter was about Roberts.
Ah what do you expect from girls (ducking)
Beth says:
HA! Bastard! hahahahhahha
You should go dumpster-diving at the lefty sites. No, actually, the ones freeeeaaaking out about Miers should, and maybe they’d zip it. Leftards are in full celebration mode about the right eating their own, y’know…and they’re already on message about Miers being a “wingnut.” I wish our side would do the same.
Hardcore Conservative says:
Ok I heard part of Limbaugh today and totally changed my mind about her I hope she’s confirmed

Bush picks White House aide for Supreme Court
So, it’s Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court. Captain Ed and Powerline are both “disappointed.” I’ll take those two to represent conservative opinion.
I’m not disappointed….
don surber says:
Wait I just got the memo this morning from THE VRWC:
Dear Don:
RE: MIERS
You are supposed to freak out as conserves eat out own every few years,
just so leftards can be in charge for a while.

Driving Miss Miers
My first reaction to Harriet Miers was surprise. I would have thought that qualifications for Supreme Court Justice would include experience from behind the bench. Yet, the only true requirement for Supreme Court Justice is that you would rightly inter…
