Weekend Assignment
First–open trackbacks.
If you have something you’d like others to read, link to this post, and send a trackback. If you use Blogger or something else that doesn’t send trackbacks, use Kalsey’s Simpletracks form. Your link will show up below, in the post (and count toward your ecosystem stats, if you care).
As always, trackbacks without a link to this post in yours will be deleted! For more information about trackbacks, see Harvey’s primer on the subject.
I mean it–if you read anything this weekend, read this.
Stacy at Not a Desperate Housewife lost her nephew Cody (and seven of his friends) to a drunk driver, four years ago today. From Monday:
This entire week I’m devoting my blog to Cody and his friends. I’m not even sure where to begin. My hope for this week is to try once again to make people recognize the dangers of drinking and driving and the impact it makes upon society.
I URGE you to go read what she’s written; it’s a tough read at times, but it’s important that people understand how real lives are lost, and how those of their families are forever changed.
If anyone who had ever been guilty of drinking and driving, saw the pain we had to endure, they would forever loathe themselves for ever having taken that risk. There has been no other day in my life, up to this point, that I have felt that much pain. One of the saddest elements of this event though, was knowing that the next weekend, there would be other families in this country enduring the same thing. Cody and his friends were not the end to this gross misjustice.
Inexplicably, the drunk driving killer got off easy:
The young man that killed my nephew, and the other seven boys, Clint Haskins, received a very short sentence. He murdered eight people and will spend roughly 6 to 7 years in jail.
I assure you, when you read this, you will be moved–as well as outraged. Please don’t miss this, and do spread the story around so others will get the message of her story. You may very well be saving a life by spreading awareness.

[...] Over the past 3 years I’ve learned one thing that I will take to the grave: there will never be a time when people will not fight against what is wrong. As I come to the end of my usefulness in the Army, I’m amazed by the 17-year-old High School students who are enlisting today. I was like them, not knowing why I enlisted, just knowing that I could find no reason not to. I am emboldened that even though I will someday fade away, there will always be those like me, who will defend America to the death, “because I am here.” Trackbacked to: • Wizbang! • Basil’s Blog • MY Vast Right Wing Conspiracy • Jo’s Cafe • Cafe Oregano • Stop the ACLU [...]
