“We need the military in here NOW…”
A chilling post on The Interdictor who is giving up to date information from the heart of New Orleans:
In case anyone in national security is reading this, get the word to President Bush that we need the military in here NOW. The Active Duty Armed Forces. Mr. President, we are losing this city. I don’t care what you’re hearing on the news. The city is being lost. It is the law of the jungle down here. The command and control structure here is barely functioning. I’m not sure it’s anyone’s fault — I’m not sure it could be any other way at this point. We need the kind of logistical support and infrastructure only the Active Duty military can provide. The hospitals are in dire straights. The police barely have any capabilities at this point. The National Guard is doing their best, but the situation is not being contained. I’m here to help in anyway I can, but my capabilities are limited and dropping. Please get the military here to maintain order before this city is lost.
New Orleans can’t do this alone, they’ll need all of us supporting them for a very long time. Yes, there are a lot of people right now only making a terrible situation much much worse by being stupid, selfish and completely out of their minds; but please keep in mind that there are a lot of innocent people who are still trapped in the city (poor people; children; sick; elderly) and there are a lot of people in that city trying to salvage and restore their hope. We can’t abandon them just because of some idiots who don’t know how to behave.
What can you do?
Unfortunately not much to appease the situation described above, but you can contribute to the charity of your choice (please be smart about where to donate; established charities such at the Red Cross or Salvation Army); you could contribute to a family individually (like Wizbang blogger Paul); you can give blood. If you have an extra room, consider opening it up to someone who has nowhere to go.
And you can pray. Hard.

Homeland Insecurity
The Department of Homeland Security just faced its first major test in New Orleans. It failed miserably.
No one is in charge. Looters, gangs, thugs, and murders rule the streets. (See Michelle Malkin: Can Law and Order Be Restored?) Police and oth…
