Expert diagnosis of the “anti-war” left
- Posted by Beth on August 26th, 2005 filed in General, Politics, Support the Troops
I say “anti-war” with scare quotes because this article is DEAD ON.
Individuals and organizations that tend toward the political Left in America are often described as being “anti-war”. To be certain, it is in reference to their collective opposition to American military presence in Iraq and to a lesser degree in Afghanistan.
But can Michael Moore, Jodie Evans of Code Pink and mère d’année Cindy Sheehan be truthfully be described as anti-war?
…
Michael Moore, Jodie Evans and Cindy Sheehan have taken sides in our war against Islamic terrorism. Michael Moore, Jodie Evans and Cindy Sheehan are not on our side.Although President Bush has been vilified for stating that “you are either with us or you are with the terrorists” there is no doubt that Michael Moore, Jodie Evans and Cindy Sheehan are with the terrorists. Michael Moore, Jodie Evans and Cindy Sheehan are enemies of America.
And then, go read my favorite post of the day at Sigmund, Carl, and Alfred: To Those Idiots Who Want Our Troops Out Of Iraq
You don’t care about the reasons we went to war. If it means screwing the President of the United States, you’re all for it. You will lie, misrepresent and even commit terror to do just that. It has nothing to do with the war. You just want to screw over the President and his supporters. This is about you and what you believe because you are under the mistaken impression anyone really cares about you. Pay attention, we’ll come back to this.
Pay attention to all of it; you NEED to read it if you’re one of those (cough) “anti-war” (cough) warriors, if you have the slightest bit of curiosity about why we find you utterly wrong–no, evil–and disgusting.
The truth hurts, doesn’t it?
I’ve said this repeatedly, but I’ll say it again: this war won’t be lost on the battlefield, it’ll be lost at home. That’s what you people want, isn’t it? You WANT us to lose the war, so you can say “haha, I was right, Bush is bad.”
You are pathetic, anti-American, self-loathing, vile scum. Just like your jihadi comrades.

Wow angry Wingnuts! The same angry Wingnuts who sat back and did nothing THAT”S RIGHT NOTHING when Saddam was gassing his own people and letting his kids run around raping people. So let’s not try and kid ourselves by pretending you where concerned citizens because you weren’t. I’ll get straight to Bush lied, Bush Lied fact! it wasn’t Clinton’s intelligence it was Bush’s lack of intelligence that got us in this mess. Why did we have to rush in, what was the immediate threat to the US they kept banding about. There wasn’t any, no WMD’s, no threat, nothing. But you fools keep supporting that lying bastard.
MikeT says:
Beth…. tsk, tsk tsk, many of us who oppose the war also conservatives or libertarians who also find fault in it. Many of us are deeply disturbed by the fact that the US military invaded a country whose relationship with the enemy was “the enemy (Islamists) of my enemy (USA) are my friends” while Saudi Arabia, a country that funded the Islamists who attacked us, gets away scott free.
IMO we should have responded with a simple demand. The Saudis can pay restitution in the form of $1B of free oil at 2000 market value per victim of 9-11, the Cole bombing and the Kenya/Tanzania embassy bombings to the USA, Kenya and Tanzania peoples proportional to the loss they suffered or face a full fledged total war campaign by the USA.
Personally, I’d prefer the total war against Saudi Arabia, but we ought to offer them restitution first :)
Blind Mind's Eye says:
Who really opposes the war in Iraq?
It is not possible for a libertarian of any stripe to be a pacifist beyond their own views of how they would handle violence directed toward them. Even then, there is irresponsibility that is often inherent in pacifism. I think…

And what would Jesus do? Be for the war? It is a pertinent question to ask, because most of the pro-war people call themselves christian.
Seems like Islam is not the only religion hijacked in the world.
Beth says:
Only a liar or an idiot would even make such a comparison between Islam and Christianity (or any other religion, for that matter). Last I checked, no one’s getting their head hacked off (or otherwise being murdered) for not being Christian–at least not by Christians.
Why do you hate Christianity, Tony? Only someone who rejects it would even pretend such a thing. And why would you even ask me, of all people, “WWJD”? What makes YOU think you know “WWJD?” DO you? If you do, might I suggest you contradict your assertion that the religion has been hijacked? You say most of the “pro-war” people are Christian; so what? Most AMERICANS are. May I, by your logic, suggest that most antiwar people are anti-Christian as well?
Seriously, Tony, is there ever anything at this site that you agree with? If not, why bother? Do you really think you’re going to change anyone’s mind in blog comments, especially with inane and irrelevant questions such as you ask? Do you expect to open a serious debate like that? You consistently fall back on idiotic cartoonish stereotypes of “wingnuts” that are usually spewed in the DU. I thought you were above that, but I guess I was wrong.

Guys - let’s not stoop to name-calling. But I don’t think it’s unpatriotic to question the government, no matter whose party is in power! And the facts of this war have been in dispute for some time. War is not to be taken lightly, and I want to know that the president is playing straight. Has anyone given a straight answer YET about Iraq? Who stands to gain from this? (Not me, and probably not the women of Iraq.) These are extremely reasonable questions that reasonable people can and should be demanding answers too, rather than getting all hot and bothered and calling people names and casting aspersons on their lifestyles. Let’s try and be adults, here, okay?
