Sweet HOME Alabama
Alabama yesterday [Wednesday] became the first state to enact new protections against local-government seizure of property allowed under a Supreme Court ruling that has triggered an explosive grass-roots counteroffensive across the country.
Republican Gov. Bob Riley signed a bill that was passed unanimously by a special session of the Alabama Legislature, which would prohibit governments from using their eminent-domain authority to take privately owned properties for the purpose of turning them over to retail, industrial, office or residential developers.
Calling the high court’s June 23 ruling “misguided” and a “threat to all property owners,” Mr. Riley said, “A property rights revolt is sweeping the nation, and Alabama is leading it.”
Sweet HOME Alabama, indeed.

That’s excellent news. Alabama has been on my list of “states I’d like to move to”! Huntsville is a beautiful area… I think I’ll have to go househunting online again!

Thanks for the linkie-luv, Beth. I love our Alabama State government and how they’re doing biz lately. Making me proud to be a ‘Bamian! Blog ON, friend :-)

Boobert McFucktard: you didn’t actually think your racist shi’ite was welcome here, did you? Still shi’iteting all over the blogosphere, I see…maybe you should attend to your vile farking blog instead.
Jeff H says:
All well and good.
But we all know, laws can be undone by later legislation, or court action. We need a SCOTUS that will go whole hog in overturning the huge mistakes of the past 10 or 15 years–or even as far back as Roe v. Wade.
Jay says:
I’m proud I’m from that good ol’ State! Leadin the way! Rock on!
Smoke Eater says:
Am I missing something, or did comment number three get edited or was it actually deleted before I read it?
Beth says:
No, you’re not missing anything; Boobert is a notorious troll who’s been banned from here before, as well as at just about every other right-wing site he’s ever been to.
Hey, Smokey, check out the “Mega Meme From Hell” I posted a couple of days ago. I’m tagging you right now.
Nancy Coshatt says:
I’m glad Bob Riley did this, but that is about the only good thing he has done for our state. He is so beholding to Paul Hubbert, the Ala. Teachers Union Czar, whatever Paul wants Riley gives it to him. Will be voting all incumbants OUT, thank you. But Riley did good on this one.
I to, love Alabama and live in Shelby Co.
