Quagmire???

I think I know the reason for my recent “blogger’s block.”
It isn’t JUST the daily grind, although that’s definitely part of it. It’s not supposed to be a job. There’s another, more important reason, and I’m just going to ramble a bit with this.
Basically, I’m TIRED of the same old story with just names and other details changed. What’s that story? You know, of course. It’s the constant drone of those who insult our military, undermining the war with their on-message slander.
Ted Kennedy, Eason Jordan, Dick Durbin, Howard Dean, Al Gore, the DU/Kos/left blogosphere, etc. etc. etc.–what’s the difference in any of these stories? None. They’re obviously determined to MAKE the war in Iraq turn into “another Vietnam”. I am convinced that they WANT this to be Vietnam–and for what? So they can say they’re right? So they can say Bush=Hitler?
Such pride among the anti-war left for their “ending” the war in Vietnam, at the price of so many lives. Demonize our side, tie our hands, shut down Gitmo, and they WILL create another Vietnam. I am really beginning to not just be tired of their nakedly partisan and/or anti-American (YES–I DO think it’s anti-American!) rhetoric and actions, I’m becoming genuinely disturbed by their apparent desire to stop the war by any means necessary. Nevermind the Iraqis want us there. Nevermind millions of Iraqis (and Afghanis) have gotten the right to legitimately vote for the first time in their lives. Nevermind what they want, or what serves our national interest in the long run (oh, of course–NEVER do anything to serve our national interest, right? How terrible!).
They’re on message. It’s a quagmire, we’re torturing the innocent, killing babies, it was based on lies. It doesn’t matter that their message is BULLCRAP; they just keep repeating it until it sticks in the nation’s conscience, so sooner or later we’ll be forced to withdraw. While those of us on America’s side of the war are constantly forced to examine and defend our side, those working overtime to UNDERMINE our side are never really questioned. Why is that? I have yet to see any of THEM successfully defend their assertions to the point where withdrawing right now from Iraq would be a legitimate or even sane option. How is it that the two sides are SO far apart?
Do they really, honestly think that 1) we’re too chicken to enlist, 2) we believe the war is based on “lies” but we refuse to admit it, 3) we love war? Seriously. NOBODY wants war. But it’s completely unrealistic to think that war can ever be eradicated as long as human beings occupy the planet, and being violently anti-war definitely won’t do it. If they really wanted to end the war, they would support our operations so we could actually finish the job and stop being distracted and HARMED by constant sniping from those in our own country.
They know fully well that their anti-war rhetoric is used gleefully by our enemy for propaganda. They know their words will be repeated by Al Jazeera, Zarqawi, bin Laden, the whole lot of them, but it doesn’t matter to them–in fact, it’s not even embarrassing to them at all. By any means necessary, the anti-war crowd wants to claim victory in THEIR war against Big Bad Amerikkka. Seriously, the left is obviously determined to end the war by any means–sedition and lending rhetorical support to the enemy included.
I’m dead serious: if they hate American world power so much, if they’re embarrassed to call themselves Americans, why DON’T they just renounce their citizenship and leave? I honestly don’t get it–I want to know, why do they hate America so much? I know some of it is just idiotic partisan warfare, particularly in the case of the politicians, but WTF? I couldn’t stand Bill Clinton, but I didn’t support the enemy when military action was taken during the Clinton presidency or say he was an eeevil colonialist or fighting for oil (of all idiotic arguments) when he took action, weak as it was. And isn’t it ironic that so many who said Bush ‘41 “didn’t finish the job” in Iraq are the same ones decrying our being in Iraq now?
I’ll say this: I am seriously starting to worry that the anti-war people are so on-message that their message is starting to stick with others who are otherwise complacent. Recent polls certainly seem to indicate so. They say they don’t want another Vietnam, but they’re either flat-out lying or inconceivably naive. I know it’s a basic human desire to want to “make a difference” in the world, but what the hell–is the goal to say “I helped end the war in Iraq”? Is that just easier than saying WE won against Islamofascism–a REAL human rights abuse? For the so-called human rights advocates, where’s the outcry against Islamofascism? How can they even pretend that Saddam, Zarqawi, etc. aren’t the ones who commit the real human rights abuses? How can they say it’s “none of our business” yet still scream that Bushi’iteler isn’t doing enough in other parts of the world? I want to know–is the goal to fix all the human rights abuses in the world (see also: Saudi Arabia, Darfur, Rwanda, etc.), or is it to withdraw completely and leave everyone to their own problems? I believe that to them, it’s neither–it’s simply to oppose whatever America does, especially under a Republican administration. Because you know, we’re all brain-dead theocrats operating under the rules of a “vast right wing conspiracy” to eliminate everyone that isn’t one of us.
So what to do? Why should we constantly be on the defensive for wanting to defeat Islamofascism? THEY want to kill US. THEY started it. If we don’t defeat them, they aren’t going to just leave us alone–remember 9/11?
And now, after all the rhetoric from the anti-war crowd–calling the Islamofascist terrorists not only “insurgents,” but freedom-fighters (!), saying WE are like Nazis, Pol Pot, the gulag, etc.–people are actually not just surprised but falsely outraged because Karl Rove said what I and many others TRULY believe?
Let me put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts to the region the words of Senator Durbin, certainly putting America’s men and women in uniform in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals.
He’s right, you know. And how on earth anyone can feign outrage at Rove’s remarks and not more vehemently decry the rhetoric used by the anti-war left is utterly beyond me. The mere fact that Rove’s remarks were taken offensively while the words of Durbin, MoveOn, Dean, Gore, Kennedy, Michael Moore, the DU, Kos, anti-war.com, etc. etc. etc. (there are a LOT of et ceteras) simply proves Rove’s point.
I know I’m all over the place with this. I’m just SO TIRED of talking about–and thereby amplifying–the anti-American rhetoric used by the left. For a time, I thought it was just assholes on the internet and other (usually) semi-obscure extremists, and others running for political office, but I can genuinely see that by constantly repeating their slander and lies, their ugly message lie is becoming accepted–and at this point, I don’t know what the hell I can do about it.
UPDATE: Even though nobody’s reading this today and weekend traffic sucks, here’s what I’m going to do for right now, and anyone else who’s fed up with the subversive anti-war left should take a minute and do this too.

Unfortunately, they really do believe this, especially #2. Like I have said, I spend more time on others blogs and on forums then I do on my own blog, and they always, day in and day out, say something like “you know the war is a lie, why do you keep sticking up for Bush?” or something similar. They really are nuts. Clinically. A friends wife was studying the moonbats for a lark, and she, as a lisenced phsycologist, claims they are nuts. She threw alot of phych terms at me one time, about this. I wonder if I still have that email?
Keep the Faith, Beth. Hopefully, the Dem party will implode and go away before they destroy our country. Folks like you help make them go away.

What’s needed is that when a Karl Rove speaks the truth, an avalanche of supporting comments need to pour forth from those who remani silent among our political force. Senators, Representatives, The Vice President, The President, News people, there are SOME supporters of truth there, aren’t there?
People need to speak up like the left does. Even when our Military is defamed some speak in support. Howard Dean had no problem - gee, I have to admit I don’t know who his Republican counterpart is, he should speak up.

I so know what you mean and when I read posts like yours it makes me want to come back out from hiding. I’ve decided to lay off the political elementary school-girl bickering of who said what to whom in our government. Grown men and women pointing their fingers at each other and saying, “it’s your fault” or whatever.

Stating the obvious, this is obviously a right-wing blog. And just as obviously (almost) everyone who comments on it is on the right. I am certainly not on the right. But in a democracy, as far as I know, individual human beings are entitled to think and say what they want. And in a democracy the political debate requires that every action of the government be rigorously examined and criticized. In this context it seems absolutely ridiculous to say those on the left are “anti-American”. The converse would be to say that the only way to prove you are a good American is to support the government right or wrong. This is after all supposed to be a democracy. I don’t want this to turn into an exchange between me and Beth. But I do think there is plenty of reason to think the war in Iraq was a mistake. Either a mistake or a lie. In fact my option would be for the latter. And I think this is the case whether a Republican is in the White House or a Democrat. It’s impossible to go in to all the arguments here, of course. But after examining them I have certainly come to the conclusion that a big mistake was made (or a big lie was told). And it doesn’t seem to me to be anti-American to say so. If the whole nation can be brought into line behind the government’s policies and actions, simply by calling criticism “anti-American”, I hardly see how this furthers democratic debate.
On a completely different subject, I wonder if you can tell me how the code (below) is generated and how it helps.

It’s not about oil, and anyone who says it is so is clearly not connected to reality.
It isn’t about killing “brown people,” they’ve been given freedoms that would have gotten them killed and tossed in mass graves under Saddam. NO ONE has ever given a rational explanation with facts (not paranoid conspiracy theories) for why the Bush administration–AND the Clinton administration AND other world governments –would lie.

If y’all don’t mind me butting in for a sec, iraq was not a mistake, Magictongue. Rather then the terrorists in the ME coming here to the USA, they are coming into Iraq. We are killing them off. Most of the “insurgents” being killed are not Iraqi’s, but citizens of other ME countries. Iraq is a long term project. Is it going perfectly? No. It is combat. It was insane to island hop in the Pacific in WWII. But we percevered, and overcame the difficulties. Korea looked like a lost cause. But, with bravery and a crazy plan at Inchon, we percevered. We were not losing in Vietnam. We WON the Tet Offensive. What caused us to lose was the negative media and those protesters who cared more for the N. Vietnamese then the interests of their own country.
People dislike the Iraq war. Fine. We get that. But screaming it from the mountain top constantly hurts your country and it’s short and long term interests. And the interesting part is that if the Left would just shut their yaps and seethe in quiet, we would be more free to get the job done quicker. The enemy would not be emboldened by the Left comments anymore. WHich they damn sure are now.

This again goes to motive - I rarely hear about what the plan or even philosophy is from the Left these days. It’s all an incessant gripe (or, if you will, principled opposition), with NO proposals on how to rectify the situation AND address the very real problems we’re facing that existed before Bush even assumed office. At best, any suggestions I hear seem to boil down to a) flee the battlefield and b) be nicer to people. Personally, I find that unpersuasive.
Put another way: It’s one thing to constantly question our goverment for the sake of the preservation of our precious democracy. It’s another thing entirely to suggest alternatives along with those questions. One without the other is mere wankery.

Thank you Beth, that post was exactly what i’ve been thinking for a few weeks now. i’m getting tired of the constant drone of attacks too. It’s always the same shi’ite, different voice. But i don’t believe it’s having an effect, and i don’t believe the polls. When i saw the latest poll that says something like 56% against the war, i just thought about those exit polls on election day. Pollsters have agendas too, just look at the biased questions they use. i think the American people don’t want this war to last forever, but they’re not quitters, contrary to what the elite media wants to believe.

The time for debate about the Iraq war was in 2002. We had that debate and the Congress overwhelmingly passed the Use of Force Resolution.
We’re in it now and there are only two ways out, victory or defeat.
