Schiavo Killing Redux
Mae Magouirk is an 81 year-old widow being starved to death in hospice DESPITE HER INSTRUCTIONS to the contrary, thanks to the decision made by her granddaughter which was completely the opposite of what was stated in Magouirk’s living will.
No time for an in-depth post on this at the moment, so go see Romeocat’s roundup at CatHouse Chat - many others are on this story as well and she has links to them. See also Cao’s Blog for more links.
And of course, BlogsForTerri has been following this.
This is probably at least as bad as the Schiavo case, in that Magouirk SPECIFICALLY “stated that fluids and nourishment were to be withheld only if she were either comatose or “vegetative,” and she is neither. Nor is she terminally ill, which is generally a requirement for admission to a hospice.”

This is happening all over the country now, this is just one example.
In a situation recalling the recent death of Terri Schiavo in Florida, an 81-year-old widow, denied nourishment and fluids for nearly two weeks, is clinging to l…

 Thanks, Beth. It’s extremely upsetting, and I’m not over losing the fight over Terri’s precious life. This is yet another…but since we’re already organized, perhaps we’ll be able to DO something about it this time! Praying for her sweet nephew and her sister, Cao.

found your blog through prolifeblogs, hope you don’t mind me commenting, I just came across this story last night and can’t believe it’s happening all over again. My question is - can her grand-daughter legally starve her and get away with it?
Beth says:
Hi Aimz!
Do I mind? I love comments!
I don’t know how she is getting away with it, but I guess she is right now. I can’t believe it either! I haven’t had time to dig into it a lot yet, so for now check out Cao (linked above your comment) or Romeocat or BlogsForTerri (linked in the blog post). BlogsForTerri probably has the most on it as of right now.
I can’t even comprehend how this is allowed to happen!

Has this story been verified, really? It is beyond my comprehension how this could be allowed to happen.
While we are a country of laws and rules, there has to be some kind of political pressure exerted on lawmakers to preclude this (epidemic?) from continuing.

I’m thoroughly horrified and disgusted with this turn towards euthanasia in this country. I cannot BELIEVE the courts would allow for a decision like this to be made based upon a granddaughter’s assessment that it’s time for her grandmother to “come home to Jesus”. These people need to be JAILED!

The “judge” who is allowing it apparently doesn’t even have a law degree!

Alright. Time out. If Mrs. Magouirk isn’t dying, comatose (at least in the not-deliberately-drugged sense of the word), and doesn’t wish to be starved to death, why on earth is this happening?

They’re murdering Mae Magouirk!!
This is a timeline I’ve constructed to better allow you to understand what’s going on. There’s a lot more information…
