This has been bugging me
Am I the only blogger who does NOT give a rat’s ass about Battlestar whateverthefarkitis? I thought that was some 80’s show…? Are you guys Trekkies too? What’s up with that shi’ite?
Why is there such a strong correlation between computer geeks and sci-fi stuff? When I worked as a programmer, the other programmers (geeks, all of ‘em) said I wasn’t a “real programmer” because I just don’t like sci-fi. (Actually, I don’t consider myself a “real programmer.”) I mean Star Wars and the next two were good, but I never saw any of the others, NEVER “got” the whole Star Trek thing (and I think it’s cheesy as hell), much less the more recent incarnations, and now this Battlestar thing? And Lord of the Rings? Huh? I can’t stand any of that stuff.
Blasphemy, I’m sure some of you will say. Whatever. I mean if you like it, fine, whatever floats your boat.
And don’t even TRY telling me I should watch or read any of it. After all this time and so many people I’ve known being kooky about sci-fi stuff, I’m not about to change my mind now. I know what does and does not appeal to me, thanks.
(Watch, some über-geek will get offended now, hack my blog, and turn it into some idiotic sci-fi tribute page.)

I’ll take anti-trekkie for $500 Bob, and right after that throw me a anti-james-bond for $850.
I did, however, watch Harry Potter. All three of them. I thought I would hate them, blech on the magical stuff, I just don’t get into it. Woops. I watched it, I loved it. I hesitate to say that I’ll never watch something now until giving the flick at least a good 15 minutes to grab my attention!

I DO like Scifi, but I have always been more intrigued by SciReal. This is the problem I have with the UFO/Art BEll nuts. The real world is so much cooler!

You are not alone, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for saying it. (I love your blog, btw.)

Apologies to Dean Esmay
But I’m with Beth on Battlestar Galactica (sp?)

Personally, I don’t care that you hate it. But you will, unfortunately, have to close your blog now.

Sure SciReal is always better, but SciFi still rocks!
… admitted BSG, Stargate (+Atlantis), Star Trek fan (not a trekkie, though - no conventions are garbage like that) … also liked X-Files :).

I don’t give a flying fuck about it either. You’re not alone.

I’m not a fan of media based scifi (watched 2 episodes of the Enterprise and then baled on TV scifi altogether). I’m a big fan of literary SF, which is an entirely different beast (if you have read it, you’ll know what I mean).
I am a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica, though, mainly because I think Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell are fantastic actors.
Timmer says:
Okay…you’re obviously a poser. No self-respecting geek, prior Air Force person would think much less post the things you just put forth here.
Who are you really?

To each his own, I suppose. I realize that more women would like to watch Titanic than Star Wars but then, hey, I’d rather brouse through a Lowe’s than a Macy’s any day.

I don’t care for it either. I loved the original when I was a kid, but I couldn’t get past Starbuck and Boomer being girls let alone Boomer being a freaking Cylon. Um, not that I care… ;-)
On the other hand, I’m a Trekkie. I’m not a Starfleet Uniform wearing Trekkie, mind you. :-)
JD says:
The reason for all the ya-ya about BSG is the fact that the writing, acting and action sequences are so much improved over the 1970s version of BSG.
That, and Trish Helfer is DAMN hot!
It’s all good. Y’all just let us know when NASA does something that doesn’t blow up in their faces and our pocketbooks.
Graumagus says:
Yeah, I’m a sci-fi geek, and I love BSG.
But anyone who rips on someone else for not liking what they do is an idiot.
On a side note, I’ve never been to a sci-fi convention, but I really want to go… in my great kilt and packing my baskethilted claymore.
Why?
Every time I’m at a damn renaissance faire there’s a group of idiots dressed as Klingons. Fair is fair.
Yeah, I know I’m a loser :)
