Keep Supporting the Troops

I was otherwise kind of blocked on what to write about today, tired of the same old shi’ite, so here is something ALWAYS worth writing about–supporting the troops:

Blackfive (always the best place for such things) wants to collect letters and things for carepackages for ten tankers in Iraq. If you want to help, email him! Actually, there are so many good things to read there, I can’t decide which ones to link without listing the whole site so take some time and go read it all.

I’m overdue in posting this (sorry, Eric!) but Eric at Vince Aut Morire received a comment from the mother of a Marine:

Just wanted to thank you for the support and honesty that is shown on this site. I am Lcpl Cody Elgan’s mother (Hometown Heroes II). He leaves to go back to ‘work’ today. Our time together these past 3 weeks has been awesome and enlightening. I marvel at the strenght this 19 year old man has, to see what he has seen, and still have the heart he has alway had…love of family, love of people. I have to tell a short story:
Cody was at the mall, just shopping, wasting time. A woman, who was both physically challenged and slightly challenged mentally, began talking to Cody about missing her bus, and that she had to wait another hour before the next bus came. You or I would have said we were sorry to hear that, and move on. Not Cody. He took this lady home. He called me for directions, but did not tell me until later why he needed to go 20 miles out of his way. He talked to her the whole way, and laughed and joked with her as if he knew her all of his life. He listened to her stories, and assured her he would get her home safely. He will never see her again, yet did this anyway, as this Bad Ass Marine has the heart of an Angel.

Just wanted to share, and thank you again.

Chad at In The Bullpen writes about Iraqis’ changing opinion on the “insurgency” (terrorists)–probably the most crucial “support” of all, even if their actions are for different reasons!

Greyhawk of the Mudville Gazette has a post featuring Michael Tucker, the director of Gunner Palace, where he talks about Iraq, the blogospherere, and his movie. BTW, Gunner Palace opened this weekend–if you haven’t heard, it’s a documentary of the Iraq war as seen through the eyes of the troops (rather than a fat lying moonbat).

Bloggers, I urge each and every one of you to write your own letter to the troops overseas. Make it a general open letter to any Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine. Keep in mind that the people reading these letters will be both male and female of all ages, ethnic origins and religions. Once your letter is posted, please trackback to this post so that I may find and print your letter. Please direct your readers to this effort as well. Non-bloggers, please leave your open letter of support in the comment section of this post. While it is possible for you to email me your letters, I’d like to see them in the comments so that troops overseas can access and read them online.

“Angels of Mercy,” sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 270 of McLean, Virginia, is a program to support wounded and injured Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) service members and their families. And finally, to those of you serving our country, THANK YOU. Your job isn’t the highest-paid or most glamorous, but it’s not just a “job,” either–as the slogan says. What you do is so much more than a “job”–it’s a mission of valor, a higher calling, only for the best America has to offer. We all owe you more than we can possibly offer in return for what you are doing, but we can at least offer you our true gratitude and admiration and recognition that you really are changing the world for the better. Millions of us would join you at your side in the fight if we could, because we know the cause is right and just. God bless you all and keep you safe!
