Simply Amazing

Meandering about the web last night I found this:

(CNSNews.com) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations says the conservative National Review magazine apparently has removed advertisements for two “virulently anti-Muslim books” it is selling in its online store.

I really found that hard to swallow. I can’t imagine that National Review would back off in the face of bullying by the Islamofascist advocacy group CAIR. I couldn’t find any acknowledgment of this on NRO, but I did find the following, written by Robert Spencer, at FrontPage Mag.com:

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has this week waged a campaign against National Review, seeking an apology and the removal of a book called The Life and Religion of Mohammed from sale by the NR Book Service. This was a bit out of focus, since National Review did not publish the book and is not the sole source for it. In fact, I wrote this ad, although I receive absolutely no remuneration from the sales of the book by NR or anyone else. CAIR’s campaign was revealing of what CAIR wants Americans to know — and not to know — about Islam and Muhammad. And CAIR did succeed in intimidating NR into withdrawing the book, along with Serge Trifkovic’s Sword of the Prophet.

In a press release, CAIR called the book “virulently Islamophobic,” and quoted sections from advertising copy for book that called it a “guide into the dark mind of (the Prophet) Mohammed.” It took issue with the ad copy’s description of the book as explaining “why Mohammed couldn’t possibly be a true prophet, and reveal[ing] the true sources of his ‘revelations.” Above all, CAIR was angered by the ad copy’s assertions that “Mohammed posed as the apostle of God…while his life is marked by innumerable marriages; and great licentiousness, deeds of rapine, warfare, conquests, unmerciful butcheries, all the time invoking God’s holy name to sanction his evil deeds,” and that “Mohammed again and again justified his rapine and licentiousness with new ‘divine revelations.’”

In the CNSNews article it’s revealed that CAIR didn’t just go after NR, they went after one of NR’s biggest advertisers, Boeing. So I can see why NR pulled the books from their online store. From what I’ve read, NR doesn’t exactly operate on a huge budget, and the loss of Boeing as an advertiser would have dealt a serious blow to this august magazine which has been around for 50 years now.

Still, it rankles that my favorite magazine was successfully bullied by the terrorism apologists over at CAIR. I haven’t read these books, but, in reading the full Frontpagemag article, it is revealed that The Life and Religion of Mohammed was actually written over 80 years ago, and rather than being the viruently anti-islam tome that CAIR describes, is merely a look at the early history of Islam.

Which, if anyone cares to look seriously at, was a time of “great licentiousness, deeds of rapine, warfare, conquests, unmerciful butcheries, all the time invoking God’s holy name to sanction [his] evil deeds.” And in some places, it still is.

I’ve been watching the days on the calender come closer and closer to my turn on the roster here at TWA, and every time my brain tried to wrap around an idea on what to post, it would freeze faster than a woman hearing the words “yes,that dress makes you look fat.”

So 3 cheers for noted lard eating fat bastard Michael (GET INNA MY BELLY!) Moore. With shaking hands that no shot of liquor (or several, trust me) could subdue, I typed the URL into the address bar. I didn’t take but 3 seconds for me to be lying on the floor (from the liquor). Then I woke up and looked at the screen again. This time, it took less than a second to end up on the floor again, doubled over in laughter. Because this is what popped up to assault my soon bulging eyeballs:

How tragic. How sad. How utterly abysmal. I will kick myself forever because I had not a clue that today was “National Day of Action to Stop the Draft” day. Oh the humanity! What will I tell my grandchildren? Will I ever live it down?

Wait a minute. There is no draft.

Phew! I am redeemed!

There are a few glaring exceptions. On the anti-killing side, to one extent or another, are: former Clinton lawyer Lanny Davis, former Gore lawyer David Boies, former O.J. lawyer Alan Dershowitz, Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman, McGovern and Carter strategist Pat Caddell, liberal blogger Mickey Kaus, Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader and Rainbow Coalition leader Jesse Jackson, as well as several of my friends who are pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage but not Pro-Adulterous Husbands Who, After Taking Up With Another Woman, Suddenly Recall Their Wives’ Clearly Stated Wish to Die.

Opinions about the Schiavo case seem to break down less on morals than on basic knowledge of the facts of the case.

And another good point:

Supporting the idea that positions on the Schiavo case are correlated with IQ, on the pro-killing side is Rep. Chris Shays, R-Conn., who denounced the legislation granting federal courts jurisdiction over Terri’s case, saying the Republican Party “has become a party of theocracy.” Yes, you remembered correctly: The House passed the bill overwhelmingly in a 203-58 vote, and the Senate passed it in a voice vote also with overwhelming support. (Surely, if anyone would defend the practice of being on a liquid diet, you’d think Ted Kennedy would.)

Also on the pro-killing side are conservatives still pissed off about the Civil Rights Act of 1964 who are desperately hoping to be elected “most consistent constitutionalist” by their local Federalist Society chapters. [Emphasis mine. --Ed.]

You can’t grow peanuts on your own land or install a toilet capable of disposing two tissues in one flush because of federal government intervention. But Congress demands a review of the process that goes into a governmental determination to kill an innocent American woman – and that goes too far!

But spare me the paeans to “strict constructionism” and “limited government.”

Funny…I never need to elaborate on what what she says; she again saves me the trouble of writing what I’ve been thinking. Heh.

I Said What I Meant, And I Meant What I Said

My points are what I first said about the image from Terri Schiavo’s CT scan:

1) It is NOT as bad as the neurologists and bioethicists play it up to be; and,

2) There are many elderly patients with various levels of mental functioning who have severe atrophy that is difficult to distinguish from Terri Schiavo’s atrophy

I stand by what I said. And I’m putting my money where my mouth is.

THAT is what I call REAL “medical ethics.” He’s not only staking big bucks on what he’s saying, he’s obviously staking his reputation on it as well.
