Monday, January 24, 2005; 8:30 AMBAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqi authorities announce the arrest of an al-Qaida figure allegedly behind 75 percent of the car bombings in Baghdad.
From Wired News, Reuters reports that Sami Mohammed al-Jafi, known as Abu Omar al-Kurdi, was arrested on December 15th, but it’s just now being announced.
Kurdi has been in Iraqi custody for over a month, but his capture was announced just a week before Iraq’s landmark elections in which Prime Minister Iyad Allawi is running on a list that promises to bring security to beleaguered Iraqis.
“Kurdi has confessed to some 75 percent of the car bombs that were used for attacks in Baghdad since March 2003 and to making the explosives used in the attack on the Jordanian embassy in August 2003,” spokesman Thair al-Naqib said.
“Kurdi also confirmed he was responsible for some of the bloody attacks on the police.”
Iraqi forces said they also captured another insurgent earlier this month, Nayef Abbas al-Zubaydi, who heads the Abu Talha group linked to the Jordanian militant Zarqawi in the lawless northern city of Mosul, Naqib said.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi declared war on the democratic process in Iraq, calling it un-Islamic:
In an apparent bid to elevate the fear level, an audiotape attributed to Zarqawi appeared on two Islamist Web sites yesterday, threatening anyone who dares to vote.
“We have declared a bitter war against the principle of democracy and all those who seek to enact it,” said the speaker, whose identity was not confirmed.
“Those who vote … are infidels. And with God as my witness, I have informed them [of our intentions],” he said.
ISLAMOFASCISM. These animals are not “insurgents,” they are TERRORISTS. FASCISTS. Let there be no doubt, dhimmis, why American troops are still in Iraq. NO one likes the fact that Americans are dying there, but if we were to pull out, Iraq would become what Afghanistan used to be, with Zarqawi (if not bin Laden himself) at the helm.
And, in just another day in the war between Islamofascism and democracy, a suicide bomber has struck in the Green Zone, wounding at least ten people.
Al-Qaida’s wing in Iraq said in a Web posting that “one of the young lions in the suicide regiment” carried out the attack against the party office of Allawi, “the agent of the Jews and the Christians.”
Of course. Democracy is only for Jews and Christians. Six more days until the Iraqi elections, and we’ll see about that. Even if the terrorists had their way, they’d still be at war with their own people, with whatever excuse they can use to maintain power. Pay attention to this–their “jihad” in Iraq is nothing more than a self-serving power grab, with their “religion” being used as a front (it IS easy to quote Islamic text to support their violence, after all).

If not, I have a few things to say.
First, SETTLE DOWN when you comment. See the note above the comment frame that says the code is case-sensitive? If you take a deep breath and slow down, you might notice it. I deleted the duplicate post–both ended up in the moderation queue because you don’t follow instructions very well. (Or spell, or form proper sentences very well, for that matter.)
Now, about your ridiculous (!) comment.
We don’t “invade” every country that has WMDs, if you hadn’t noticed. If that were the SOLE reason we went into Iraq, we’d have Russia, Israel, India, Britain, France, etc., etc., etc., to deal with as well. It has to do with the likelihood of them being used against us–and as we ALL KNOW (or damn well SHOULD) Saddam Hussein HAS USED WMDs against his own people in the past. I’m not even going to go any further with this part of the discussion with you, because it’s pointless. You obviously don’t get it.
More to the point, Zarqawi IS a terrorist. He is NOT an “insurgent.” If we were in the situation you describe, WE wouldn’t be beheading fellow Americans or anyone else, we wouldn’t be indiscriminately murdering civilians in our own country, we wouldn’t be blatantly ignoring the laws of armed conflict (i.e. pretending to be injured and then opening fire, fighting from churches, stockpiling weapons caches in schools, the list goes on). There IS a difference, but you sick people refuse to acknowledge it because all you stand for is being anti-Bush, and YOU KNOW IT.
Obviously you’re missing another point, as well. Zarqawi and all the other al-Qaeda-affiliated TERRORISTS are at war with anything and everything that isn’t FOR THEM. They don’t give a flying shi’ite about Iraq or Iraqi people. They want one thing–a fascist Islamic theocracy ruled by THEMSELVES.
It’s YOU people who will end up causing more deaths by further motivating those who are killing our troops with your empty, politically- (NOT morally-) motivated rhetoric. I hope you’re proud of yourselves. That’s why we can’t stand “your side”–it’s one thing to disagree on domestic issues, but your black-hearted death chants against our troops is sickening, evil, anti-American, and ANTI-HUMAN.
