A man in Topeka, Kansas, decided to write a book about churches around
the
country. He started by flying to
San Francisco, and started working east from there. Going to a very
large
church, he began taking photographs and making notes.
He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall, and was intrigued
with
a sign which read, “$10,000 per minute.”
Seeking out the pastor, he asked about the phone and the sign. The
pastor
answered that the golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to Heaven, and
if
he pays the price, he can talk directly to God. The man thanked the
pastor
and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Seattle,
Denver, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston, and around the United States, he
found more such phones, with the same sign, and the same explanation
from
each pastor.
Finally, the man arrived in the lovely state of Alabama. Upon entering a
church, behold: he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the
sign
read: “Calls: 25 cents”!
Fascinated, the man asked to speak with the pastor. “Reverend, I have
been
in cities all across the country and in each church I have found this
golden
telephone, and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven, and that I
could use it to talk to God. But in 20 other churches, the cost was
$10,000
per minute. Your sign says 25 cents per call. Why is that?
Mary Katharine Ham of The Insider Online is accepting nominations for Blogger Babe of the Week!
Please feel free to nominate, Beth! Noticed your trackback on Wizbang. I thought it was about time for a little fun for the ladies of the blogosphere. Have a good one. I’m bookmarking you!
This is for male bloggers–so ladies, if you have a nomination, send it to her (or put it in comments here, and I’ll send it).
If any of you guys want to be a nominee, you’re going to have to send her a picture or have one available on your blog of yourself. I’ll nominate you if you link back to this post in some way and send a trackback or leave a comment that you linked to this. Don’t be SHY, it’ll be good for publicity! ;-)
Even if you chicken out, check out Mary Katharine’s The Insider Online–it’s a huge source of information on the issues of the day (Blogger Babe of the Week is just a fun diversion), and a product of the Heritage Foundation.
(Maybe James Joyner for the Beltway Traffic Jam?)
…about Iraq today has been rounded up. Arthur Chrenkoff’s Good News From Iraq Part 20 (the series should be on your reading list!) has it ALL–the election (!), society, the economy, the reconstruction, humanitarian aid, the coalition troops, and security. Take your time and read through it–it’s worth every minute.
I wish I blogged like this!
Scott at Speed of Thought has some excellent photos and another great roundup, as well.
And don’t forget the blue finger project!
Basil–I mean basil–has the exclusive! This is big!
That fat bastard Moore-on is actually blogging his progress on this junk…take a look!
(And by the way, if you aren’t reading basil’s blog, you suck.)
Get out your blue magic markers, stamp pads, whatever…and ink up to show solidarity and support for Iraqi democracy!
Via Matt Margolis, a ten year-old girl had the idea:
It will symbolize our support if we wear ink on our fingers,” Shelby said. “We’re not forcing them to vote, but they have a chance to do it and they should take that chance.”
Shelby said Saturday afternoon she hoped to set up a stand at Rimrock Mall today where people could sign their names and roll their fingers on a stamp pad, but her plans were not yet inked.
She’d love to wake up Monday morning and see people around the United States with blue index fingers.
“Do you have your blue ink?” she asked. “It’s food for thought.”
So turn your finger blue, take a picture, and send it to Matt HERE, and it will be posted online in the gallery!
UPDATE: Dan at Riehl World View has some blue-fingered pictures for the pessimists…hahaha

The real winner in the Iraqi elections: The Iraqi people!
The real Iraqi freedom fighters battled with ballots, not bullets. Congratulations to all the Iraqis who voted yesterday–you have more than earned it. You are an inspiration to the rest of the world!
Read the accounts of those who voted:
and follow their links to other Iraqi bloggers! You cannot ignore this historic event–just see for yourself how much it means to the Iraqi people, and if you’re not inspired and awed, well, you must be crazy.
These are actually going up as billboards in Hollywood!
You want a poster? Citizens United has them for $15 each, or 2 for $25. I think they’re PRICELESS.
[H/T to Zelda at Ace's HQ]
I might have to shut down until Tuesday…I just got email notifying me of exceeding bandwidth. Never mind, I’ll just deal with it.
No Instalanches, please, at least until Tuesday. ‘Cause you know, it happens every day…LOL ;-)
LAST UPDATE: Everything’s ok now…Instalanche all you want. hahaha
Go read Husayn of Democracy in Iraq and his account of this historic vote!

I might have to suggest some nominees for the Blogger Babe of the Week over at The Insider Online…
All the guys, especially Kevin Aylward (this week’s winner), put up pictures of women all the time–now it’s OUR turn.
Thanks to Paul at Wizbang for the heads-up!
FYI, I doubt I will be blogging much on this tomorrow. I’ll be following the news and reading about it on other sites. If anything, if I find other sources with good information besides IED and Friends of Democracy and other Iraqi bloggers I’ll drop a link. Just so ya know.
God bless the pro-democracy Iraqis and keep them safe as they exercise their precious right to vote!
Excellent points here–why AREN’T the imams who preach hate and violence guilty of hate crimes? Why put them on a watch list and wait around for disaster? Why is inciting others (followers, especially) to violence protected by law and tolerated in this country? We should be shouting louder and more forcefully than they are–it should not be accepted or tolerated by our society, even if they have a legal loophole. Just as we don’t tolerate or accept the KKK or Nazi hate speech, the hate from radical Islamists must be defeated.
From the linked article (boldface mine):
The non-Islamist (non-radical Islam) world is being forced, by our own laws, to revere and respect all versions of Islam as being equal. They are not. Several forms of Islam (Sufi and Ismaili are two), which espouse our definition of ‘good’, are rapidly disappearing through murder and conquest. Many other forms of Islam actually believe that murder, genocide, war for the sake of religious conquest and expansion, as well as slavery or indenture (they call it debt-servitude to get around the rightfully inflammatory word ’slavery’), sexual mutilations and enforced ignorance are all ‘good’. And they have forced us to accept their definitions of ‘good’ under the legal protections afforded to all religions.
Essentially, Islamism has taken that which we would consider the work of the ultimate evil and wrapped ‘religion’ around it, in order to circumvent the very laws we have in place to protect us from such demonic and monstrous aspirations.
When you have American mosques, American Islamist publications, and imams and groups in America calling for death to the Zionists, Jews and Crusaders, this should not be protected under freedom of religion. It is unholy and ungodly by civilized definitions, and actually is in conflict with the Hate Speech as War Crimes section of the Genocide Laws. Yet, it is still, unfortunately, considered “protected speech”, and thus manages to supercede our other laws banning and punishing such behaviors.
Since we’re stuck with RINO Arlen Specter as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee,
“ConfirmThem.com is a collaborative weblog organized by RedState.org dedicated to providing not only the most up-to-date news and analysis of the judicial confirmation battles in the United States Senate - but also giving every American the opportunity to let their voice be heard in Washington.”
