U.S. News & World Report’s Washington Whispers is whispering that some think Hillary won’t run for the presidency in 2008…
Will she or won’t she?
Hillary, Hillary, Hillary. Is there any other name that creates the political buzz that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s does? Maybe not, but some friends and allies advise against placing bets that the former first lady will be the nation’s 44th president. They report that the New York Democrat isn’t so sure about a run for the White House. “She’s not running,” says one supporter. The thinking in the “don’t run” campaign is that Clinton is well aware of the partisan feelings she generates. “People love her or they hate her,” says an adviser. “There’s very little gray area to gain voters in.”
I don’t buy it. I think she’s far more ambitious power-mad than pragmatic. This is probably a bunch of spin to keep the vast right wing conspiracy at bay for a bit longer–note that the rumbling comes from her friends, supporters, and advisers!
I do think Hitlery’s “friends and allies” are right in one thing though, when they advise against placing bets on her being elected. Call me crazy, but I just don’t believe she can.
I did this because…well, why not?
See the sidebar to cast your vote for the most idiotic troll at the Rott. I have been blessed lately (knock on wood) with fewer trolls (maybe because they’ve been BANNED!) so here’s my little fun thing for now.
Put “OTHER” answers in the comments.
My fellow Loyal Citizen, “the other Beth” ;-) of Yeah, Right, Whatever has posted an urgent prayer request:
One of the regulars in the VRWC chat room, Spencer (SLG) has an urgent prayer request. His brother, Lance Corporal Kyle Renehan, USMC, was seriously injured during a mortar attack in Fallujah today. His right leg was broken in two places (not sure if he’ll be able to keep it or not), abdomen and arm hit, but no serious injuries there, and shrapnel hit his head. He’s out of surgery- they think it went well. His other brother, Chris, was flown in from somewhere else in Iraq to be with him in Baghdad.
Please keep Kyle, Chris, Spence, and the rest of their family in your prayers. Their mom is having a really rough time right now, and Dad’s not doing much better.
If you’d like to contact Spence, his e-mail is sadlonelygeek@gmail.com
I will update this as I get more information.
You know we’ve got it covered, Beth!
And this is what our some of our guys in Iraq get?
God, I feel so childish doing silly quizzes; I think I’m too old for this. Blog Explosion exposes you to these things. Nevertheless, here’s one. I suppose it’s pretty close…

High standards are important to you, and you do everything to meet them. You are your own worst critic, feeling ashamed if you’re not perfect. You have the highest integrity, and people expect you to be fair. |
h/t to Donald Luskin, for showing me the way to a blog I had somehow missed but will miss no more: The AnalPhilosopher (as in Analytic, Beavis.)
Scum-sucking swine Ayman al-Zawahiri spews:
“We advise America, you can deal with Muslims in one of the following ways,” al-Zawahiri said. “Respect them completely and give them their own rights or consider them as easy trophies. If you do the latter we will fight you until the death.”
Sorry, Aymutt, I’m afraid I can’t honor that request. See, I just don’t respect child-molesting, head-chopping, suicide bombing, airline hijacking murderers. And that’s just the start of my complaints. So fark you.

Anniversary of the UN vote on Resolution 181

Today is the anniversary of the 1947 UN vote on Resolution 181, which approved the partition of the western part of Palestine into a predominately Jewish state and a predominately Arab state. (It is vital to recall that the UN partition plan referred to western Palestine, to underscore that in 1921 the eastern part was ripped off the Jewish National Home by the British Government and handed over to the then Emir Abdullah.)
The partition plan was approved by 33 to 13, with 10 abstentions.
The 33 countries that cast the “Yes” vote were: Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Byelorussia, Canada, Costa Rica, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Guatemala, Haiti, Iceland, Liberia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Ukraine, Union of South Africa, USSR, USA, Uruguay, Venezuela. (Among other countries, the list consists of the US, the three British Dominions, all the European countries except for Greece and the UK, but including all the Soviet-block countries.)
The 13 countries that chose the Hall of Shame and voted “No” were: Afghanistan, Cuba, Egypt, Greece, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Yemen. (Ten of these are Islamic countries; Greece has the special distinction of being the only European country to have joined the Hall of Shame.)
The ten countries that abstained are: Argentina, Chile, China, Colombia, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Honduras, Mexico, United Kingdom, Yugoslavia.
On November 30, 1947, the day following the vote, Palestinian Arabs murdered six Jews in a bus making its way to Jerusalem, and proceeded to murder another Jew in the Tel-Aviv - Jaffa area. This was a prelude to a war that claimed the lives of 6,000 Jews, or 1% of the total Jewish population in 1948. This toll is the per capita equivalent of today’s Canada losing 300,000 lives, or the US losing 3,000,000.
The object of the war, launched by the Arabs in the former Palestine and the armies of Egypt, Transjordan, Syria and Lebanon (with help from other Arab countries), was to “throw the Jews into the sea”. As the partition map indicates, however, rather than annihilate the Jewish population, the Arabs ended up with less territory than they would have gained by peaceful means.
In addition to the bloodshed in nascent Israel, immediately after the UN vote, Arabs attacked their Jewish neighbors in a number of Arab countries, with the murders in Syria’s Aleppo being the best known.
Bruised and bleeding, Israel prevailed nonetheless.
May our sister-democracy thrive and flourish.

I finally gave up on the phone call. Yes. I am stubborn. I actually waited two hours to pay a farking bill over the phone! At least I got some good blog reading in though…
So anyway, maybe you’ve noticed I cleaned up my blogroll a little last night. Lots of bloggers got the AXE because they give me NO love–no linky love, no comments, nothing. So fark’em. Especially if they kinda sucked. I also finally gave up most of the anti-Qaerry links…as they have noted, Mission Accomplished. I hated to delete those.
Are you nice to me? Do you read this well-dressed monster? Are you not on my blogroll? Tell me.
If you are reading this and I’m not on YOUR blogroll but you’re on MINE, it’s because I do like your blog and intend to keep it there. You’re that Kool. So how about reciprocating?
Anyway, I finally decided to go through the entire list (almost–I know which ones I didn’t need to “check up” on), because things were starting to get a little out of hand over there on the sidebar. Plus Rusty did it, so being the lemming that I am, I thought it was about time to get to it.
If you will humor me for a moment…why don’t we ALL do some cleanup? I’m getting sick of clicking links to dead sites on other people’s blogrolls. (Yes, I’m still bitchy this morning, because I haven’t gone back to sleep yet. Myaaaaaah.)

Once again, the best blog hostess and designer EVER has come through for me with lightning speed…those of you who had a hard time reading the links on this site (with the Computer Geek skin) will notice she changed the color for me!
Just go look, it’s funny.
And a present that’s most definitely NOT crappy: the Set game. Go play. (I forgot how addicted I was a few months ago.)
This is going to piss off quite a few people, although it shouldn’t.
Ok, maybe I’m posting this because it’s too goddamned early to think clearly, but first, read this*:
Registration forms being filled out in the offices of an Iranian aid group and in the presence of Iranian government figures offer volunteer suicide commandos the following three options, it emerged yesterday: attack American soldiers in Iraq, kill Israelis, or fulfill a 15-year-old fatwa ordering the assassination of the author of “The Satanic Verses,” Salman Rushdie.
…
According to the wire report, an Iranian aid organization created to take care of the families of soldiers slain or injured in the Iran-Iraq war had boasted on November 12 that it had recruited 4,000 martyrs for operations against American troops in Iraq, against Israelis in the West Bank and Gaza, and to fulfill a religious decree ordering the murder of Mr. Rushdie.A meeting where some 300 new recruits were enlisted also attracted a member of Iran’s Parliament, Mahdi Kouchakzadeh, and General Hossein Salami of the Revolutionary Guards. The wire dispatch quoted Mr. Kouchakzadeh as saying, “At a time when the U.S. is committing the crimes we see now, deprived nations have no weapon other than martyrdom. It’s evident that Iran’s foreign policy-makers have to take the dignified opinions of this group into consideration.”
The group in question, Headquarters for Commemorating Martyrs of the Global Islamic Movement, enjoys a semiofficial status inside Iran. Earlier this year, many Persians protested because the aid organization had failed to deliver pensions to military families.
We hear about this kind of shi’ite over and over and over again ad nauseum.
Two questions: (the potentially inflammatory part of this post)
Over 87,000 Americans are missing out on $73 million in tax refunds they’re legally owed-are YOU one of them?
Go see if the IRS owes YOU money. The IRS website has this information, but the National Taxpayers Union, God bless them, has made it MUCH easier (as it ought to be!) for people to look and see if the IRS is waiting for you to claim your due.
